Before I was saved, I had many substitutes for God. Worldly TV was certainly one of the worst of them. Do we give more time and energy to God or to Worldly TV? Do we give more time and energy to our mates or to Worldly TV? Do we give more time and energy to our children or to Worldly TV? God deserves to be the love of our lives. He always deserves our time and attention. When He IS the love of our lives we have the greatest blessings we can possibly have. Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. The vast majority of TV programming is temptation, imagination, falsehood, dishonesty, unfairness, ugliness, of bad report, unrighteousness, critical, unwholesome and spiritually harmful. It is the exact opposite of what Christians are instructed to think about. Colossians 3:2: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Worldly TV will set your affection on things on the earth. Matthew 12:36: But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.We shall not only give account for every idle word we speak, but for every idle word that we willingly listen to. The idle words we listen to will impact the words we speak. Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
If we listen to the words of the world we will have faith in the world. 1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:If we listen to the words of the world, we will stunt our spiritual growth. We will remain babes in Christ. We will become unhealthy and carnal Christians. I have asked the Lord for wisdom and discernment about what I watch on TV and He is giving it more and more. He will do that for you too. James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.Matthew 6:13a: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: . . . 1 Corinthians 10:13: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Worldly TV will prevent or undo what God wants to do for us. |
